I got Book-ed!

haven't felt this kind of addiction for books in years. Registering me on Goodreads was one of the best online things I have done till now. Everyone there talks about books; classics, literature, historical, new releases everything, you name it. There are books and books and more books. Its heaven.

I am now reading five books (two e-books and three real ones), a surprise for myself as I have never managed to read more than two at a time. Talk of multi-reading. How am I managing, aah! its just coming to me naturally.

Going back to my love with full passion is such a divine feeling. The scent of the books, the feel of the book jackets/covers, the touch and aroma of the pages; the smell depending on the number of years affecting it ---err, except the "e" ones.

January 2013 marked the 200th Anniversary of  “Pride and Prejudice”. Give me one good reason for not going back to it for the 5th time, for I am a huge admirer of Jane Austen; she is my most Favorite author. I need not say anything further for I would go on and on and on…..

The fervor has led me to one of the greatest writers of all times, William Shakespeare. More than a decade ago, I bought a copy of  “King Lear” and couldn't read more than a page. I knew I had to wait to understand and love that kind of writing. Guess its time. Though “King Lear” still sits tidily on my bookshelf, Shakespeare has made his way into my hands through his “Sonnets”.
This I went for after I finished the Collection of Leo Tolstoy's eleven short stories. Loved it.

Interpreter of Maladies” won the Pulitzer Prize and I knew, I was destined to read it. That prophecy turned out true last week. I am on the verge of finishing the book. Jhumpa Lahiri's “The Namesake” is next in the pipeline.

Being an Adventure/ Thriller/ Detective books' fan, Dame Agatha Christie has always been with me almost all my life. Her “The man in the brown suit” is one of my all time favorite reads. Currently, collection of her short stories is what I am treating myself to. It's the famous, “The Tuesday Night Club*winks*

Step aside Collens for the Father of all vampires is here; “Dracula”. I have two similarities with Abraham "Bram" Stoker; same birthday (of course…not the same year sweety) and love for Vampire stories.
Does 8th Nov anything to do with the Un-Deads? *wonders and winks*

Those are the five heavenly bodies that are presently part of me.
Ergo, the week's hiatus from blogging. Passion can take you places yes... mine is taking me to infinite numbers of worlds of imagination and creativity.

A little Jingle thats playing in my mind for sometime...
Books Books Books Books Books hai wonderful
Read sakte hain roz raatful ...

****Special Thanks to my partner in crime, Rashmi for recommending "Sonnets"....long live sisterhood.... xoxo****

  1. This is in reference to your comment on post “Scorpio – The Powerhouse” by Jeete Raho.

Before you conclude that UR a true blue Scorpion, I must declare that I’m a BLUE SCORPION as in my recently posted 109 page Novella, “The Cape Town Flower”, I have written lengthy pages about Scorpions whereas as on searching entire posts on your blog, I could not find even a single mention about the Scorpions. Ha Ha Ha!!!

My zodiac sign is also Scorpio; I welcome you to visit my under-mentioned blog :-

    http://thecapetownflower.blogspot.in/

Normally I wake up people against corruption and other evils. I request you to please go through “thecapetown.....…” which is purely a fiction; I repeat the same is a fiction and not a Memoir.

Btw, your articles/posts are very interesting, keep writing.

    Best wishes & blessings.

    1. I cincluded on the basis of what was written in that post...things matched.
On the other hand I don't write about astro signs and et al as my knowledge is that of a lay man's.
Hence, you wont find anything about being a Scorpio in my blog, however, in future if I may get any reason to mention both the zodiac sign and/or the arachnid I would definitely write. :P

Will go through your blog for sure...and thank you for your appreciation on my writing I will definitely continue doing it :)

  4. Wow reading 5 books at a go must be something. How do you keep track of the characters?

I love Jane Austen's writing as well. I liked Namesake but have not read 'Interpreter of maladies'. You should do a book review once you are done reading.

Congrats again for winning the Caption Contest.

    1. Hey Vinita thanks again :D

Keeping track of characters and plots become easy when the books are of different genres. Imagine mixing up John with Noah :D

I finished "the Interpreter of Maladies" and I was toying with the idea of reviewing it...I have to tell you read it. Its worth.

  6. Their journey is lovely, fantastic, adventurous, breathtaking (and what not) through mountains, plains, green fields, rivers, glaciers bla bla bla. A very surprising element attached to it – all these in few bucks and sometimes free !!

Yes U rightly guessed – they are not bookworms but keen readers (with good appetite). We call them virtual travellers as they travel from one mind (writer) to another. ..my big salute to their community.

They are unique as they keep writer’s bunch of words, sentences, paragraphs, books and feelings float alive all the time. The words emitted by these wise-guys are free roaming particles in the air in search of it’s real recipient so a great job - isn’t it ?

They are thankful people because they don’t allow dust to settle on forgotten books or on writer’s tomb but lit candle on it…..a great way to pay tribute. They keep talking to the invisible soul of such writers as they feel it always moving around them.

Genuine readers are of course merciless creatures and a matter of curse as well. They make bugs and spiders homeless with their frequent reading activities!!!

A nice way to enjoy and peep into the heart of a writer.

    Blessed people.

eBooks don't go well with me either... but when left with no choice.. I go for it.

I managed word verification, thanks for bringing it to my notice...those can be really annoying.

  10. Some Interesting Reads! Jhumpa Lahiri is undoubtedly one of the best authors when it comes to characterization. I found her stories lie in the characters sketched be it Sexy, Maladies, unaccustomed Earth or the Namesake. Since you have loved the Tolstoy's short stories, will recommend you read War and Peace, Anna Karenina, Gorky's Mother, Pamuk's Snow and My Name Is Red. These are some of the all time best classic novels that i feel one must through.

This was the first time I read Jhumpa Lahiri.. and now I am looking forward to read more of her. True, her stories lie in the characters...and oh so beautifully.

Thanks for the recommendation as well :)
I have read War and Peace & Anna Karenina (remarkable reads; all time best classic novels indeed), I am yet to read the rest of three novels.

  12. My authors usually are James Patterson, Harlan Coben & Agatha Christie. Mostly circling in the crime genre. So decided to go differently and bought Ayn Rand The Fountainhead. Struggling to cross 50 pages for months :(
