Fingers halting after punching a few words…
brain seeking for thoughts… eyes searching for cues, are symptoms indicating I
am in the "B" zone; the Block.
Writer's Block is nightmarish for every writer with me as no exception. The terrifying part of it is the duration. Some are lucky enough to have it for a few days; I can have long spells of it. Yes, really long.
Writer's Block is nightmarish for every writer with me as no exception. The terrifying part of it is the duration. Some are lucky enough to have it for a few days; I can have long spells of it. Yes, really long.
Self help books on the topic advise to keep writing and
reading, as a result, updating yourself on topics of your interest. And I do…I
do exactly that, however, the "keep
writing" part is little less easy with people like me who are not full time
writers. Amid zillion things to attend to, writing at times- sigh- isn't effortless as compared to
the moments when you have bouts of thoughts to pen down, and you just can not
stop.
Advice and suggestions push me to write anything that comes
to my mind or to put down an amusing anecdote or even better, an embarrassing
one, at my cost. It works, it definitely does, although, only when I want
to write about it. It's like this; no one can make me write, but me, on
anything, if "I" don't want to. That
makes me a stubborn-moody writer. I will be motivated or inspired, simply when
I welcome it openly. (I definitely need to change that)

So, when I am not quite receptive of others' motivations,
this is what always works for me; a walk in the evening. It always opens up my
mind and my brain cells churn out ideas, squeeze out words to weave in together
to create- what I call- a neat piece
of work. Thus, ending my dry spell I walk across the blocks and return home to
get back to my writing.
Writing incessantly has one advantage - you never get writer's block :P
ReplyDeleteincessatnly on FB I mean - damn !
DeleteSambi, don't tempt me ..I am no longer a full time FB-ier that I used to be :P
DeleteIndeed you are good writer..keep going..u will never face writers block becz one person can not have same thoughts for longer period...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouragement Amit. Yeah actually if I keep going, it would help :)
DeleteThat was a good topic to write on. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd yes a walk helps.
Yea... I was hit with writer's block this week, so I thought of giving it back by writing about it ;)
DeleteThe walk helped this time as well :)
this block thing happens to poor doodlers like me as well.. what i do is just doodle any face .. till i realize I am already working on an idea which is developing with the every stroke of the pen !!
DeleteYou may try this trick to fool the block next time Nam!!
Good to know you do evening walks !! How about morning walks ?? :)
Really, you too...and I thought otherwise as you are constantly doodling.
Deleteand I like the trick.. will give it a try ^_^
Mornings are reserved for yoga... evenings for walks :D
Nice post :) A walk opens up my mind too. It happens many a times, we bloggers write so much that we run out of ideas :O :)
ReplyDeleteYeah... it's as if a vacuum gets created, up there, and u have no where to go. :/
Deleteand thanks Bushra :)
What I do is work on multiple projects at the same time. That way, if I'm stumped by one particular theme, I have other things to work on.
ReplyDeleteGood to know that the walk helped :)
Oh that's a good idea, working on multiple projects at the same time.
DeleteI will see if that works for me too :)
Yes, the walks always help.
A famous author said there are no writer blocks. It happens only when you have nothing to tell the world.
ReplyDeleteSo, instead of block, its blank :/
DeleteIn case of writer's block- reading works for me! And yes spending time in nature is great too. you write well :)
ReplyDeletefollowing u!
Yea, reading often works, that's true :)
Deleteand thank you Sarah for appreciating my writing and your follow :)
Reading, attentive and observing things as you see works for me but ofcourse you need to have a clear mind before writing. :)
ReplyDeleteClear mind it is.
DeleteObserving; that's another motivation, helps in developing thoughts... :).
The best piece comes only when one is truly motivated-no?
ReplyDeleteYes, and one needs to be open to the sources of motivation... as they are unpredictable and unlimited. :)
DeleteThank you Aliasgar :)
ReplyDeletei have wondered, on many occasions, whether only i face this writer's block. i can now sleep in peace!
ReplyDeletehaha.. should I say welcome to the club? :D
DeleteIf you are a writer, you are bound to struck with it, well, that's what I have found till now :D
